Maya

In 2014 I considered that which I wanted to create and share with the world. As a child drawing had always been my favourite medium. Fast, immediate and easy to access the paper and 2B pencil. So I created a series of parameters with which I had to create. My farther - and my hero - was a builder. He had built both of our family homes. While he was building the second one I would follow him around and try and help - mainly just watch and listen to the making. I loved it. My favourite thing to do at the end of the day was tidy up his timber offcuts. They contained a secret language. Lines and numbers scribbled in writing I could not read. To me they were magic.

I thought about how a line is simple - and yet unique to the maker. What if I created a drawing which read my emotional response to music? I would play the same music - and draw lines - and observe where these parameters would take me. It began with a series titled Indigo in 2017 and Maya by 2018.

I held my first solo exhibition with. Fox Jensen. Gallery in Auckland New Zealand in 2017, Indigo, and my first solo exhibition in my home town of Sydney 2018, Maya.
